Valhalla DSP has released ValhallaSupermassive, a freeware delay effect for digital audio workstations on PC and Mac in VST, AAX, and AU plugin formats.
ValhallaSupermassive is built around a collection of reverb and delay algorithms that are designed to sound artificial and otherworldly. These algorithms were deemed too "wild" to be included in the other Valhalla DSP plugins. ValhallaSupermassive can deliver a variety of reverberation and modulation effects thanks to these one-of-a-kind pieces of code. Massive delays, lush reverbs, evolving choruses, and deep flangers can be generated, as well as never-ending and insanely complex soundscapes.
The plugin combines multiple feedback delay networks that are connected together and controlled by the plugin’s unique WARP knob. This knob modifies how the delay networks interact with one another, producing a plethora of reverbs, echoes, and ultra-long delays. ValhallaSupermassive's mode selector is another way to change the character of the delayed signal. There are eight different delay modes to choose from, each providing a unique type of signal processing.
Other controls for a delay/reverb plugin are fairly standard. The user can adjust the dry/wet mix and the stereo width of the wet signal, as well as the delay feedback and density parameters. The delay time can be specified in milliseconds or in note lengths (dotted and triplet notes are supported, too).
