Records are often a customer's first impression of iZotope, so we wanted it to feel like it was part of the same universe as our other products in terms of visual design and user experience. This event allows company employees to do whatever they want in small teams for a few days.
For the last few years, I've been particularly interested in the sound of late 80's hip-hop records. This resulted in digital smudges on top of vinyl's analog distortion. To play the beat, I used the lower keys on the sampler's keyboard to downtune the sample so that it played back at its original speed. Kurt had already worked on modeling digital-to-analog converters, and since DACs are such an important part of the sound of these samplers, it was a natural fit.
